Meghan Markle non ha conquistato solo il cuore del principe Harry, ora suo sposo, ma anche quello, ben più arcigno, della nonna del marito, ovvero la regina Elisabetta. Lo conferma un’indiscrezione pubblicata da alcuni giornali inglesi secondo i quali The Queen avrebbe deciso di modificare il testamento, inserendo nella lista dei beneficiari anche la neo nipote americana. Pare che Sua Maestà sia stata conquistata soprattutto dal carattere di ferro di Meghan e alla sua capacità di adattarsi in breve tempo alla sua nuova vita. Sempre secondo fonti attendibili, ma ovviamente non confermate, la scelta di Elisabetta, il cui patrimonio ammonta a 420 milioni di euro, non sarebbe stata accolta con favore da Carlo, timoroso che a pagarne le conseguenze possa essere la moglie Camilla con la possibilità di venire estromessa dal testamento. Ma va ricordato che, prima della Markle, anche sua cognata Kate Middleton, moglie di William, era stata inserita nel testamento della Sovrana. Questa decisione tuttavia era apparsa meno inusitata perché la duchessa di Cambridge occupa un grado superiore nella scala dinastica: il giorno in cui Elisabetta morirà, lei acquisirà automaticamente il titolo di Sua Altezza Reale Catherine, nonché principessa del Galles, lo stesso che aveva Diana quando era la moglie di Carlo. E quando Willian salirà al trono lei diventerà la regina consorte Catherine VI.
